Want to Join Me in a Vision Board Experiment?

By Ellesse

If you’ve ever watched The Secret, were you overwhelmed when John Assaraf recapped his story of using a Vision Board to manifest his dream house? And if you’ve caught Oprah Winfrey’s special feature on The Secret, were you intrigued on how a simple Vision Board could have helped Lisa Nichols achieve her seemingly ambitious goal of appearing on the show to tell her life experience?

Well, I certainly did. In fact, after watching the shows, I kept pondering about the possibility of creating a Vision Board for myself.

One day, while checking my Google feeder for my daily reading on blogs that I subscribe to, I came across a new update by Steve Pavlina on his group Million Dollar Experiment. The total amount of money manifested by 1169 participants has reached a record level of $4,000,000! Now, I love experiments. So, reading the update bounced off another interesting idea on me. Why don’t I start a trial on creating my own Vision Board, relate my experience with it and invite people to join me in the same endeavour? At the end of day, I hope this trial will serves as a simple encouragement and blueprint for anyone eager to ignite a change in their lives. Myself included.

The more I thought about it. The more excited I got.

What’s a Vision Board?

A vision board is a just a collage of pictures cut out from magazines or other periodicals to help you visualize stuff associated with your goals.

For example, if it’s your goal to earn a monthly passive income from dividends via your investment portfolio, you can pin up an old copy of your bank statement and doodle it such that you see a monthly credit deposit into your bank account. If it’s a svelte body that you’re hankering after, you can paste pictures of models with similar figures. If it’s an ideal partner that you’re seeking, you can cut out pictures of people with potential attributes that you’re looking for.

Basically, the idea is to construct a physical image of what you perceive life will be like if you’ve accomplished your goals and review this on a daily basis (or as many times as you think it’s necessary) intently. It’s not exactly the number of times you review it, but rather the emotions or feelings when performing this routine. You can look at the board ten times a day, for the sake of reviewing it but if it’s just an empty stare, you get what you put in. An empty result.

The Vision Board Experiment

For the next couple of months, I’ll record my process to see how a vision board helps to accomplish the goals that I’ve set for the years ahead.

Before I start with actually making the vision board and maintaining my routine to review it continuously, I figure it’ll be fair for me to recap my status in different areas so that there’re points for comparison later when I report my results. For the purpose of this experiment, I’ll be selecting only 5 main sections from those stated in the Past, Present and Future Review worksheet (included in my f.ree Goal Setting Tutorial), for recap. They’re

  • Health & Fitness
  • Living Environment
  • Social Activeness
  • Career Development
  • Financial Wealth

Why only these 5 areas? Well, because I’ve narrowed these to be relevant to the goals that I’ll be putting down on my vision board! I’m going to allow the visualization to work naturally and hence the results recording will correspond with this frequency. So, please feel free to visit Goal Setting College to check on my progress. You can also subscribe to the site.

How Can You Participate?

If you’ll like to join me in my experiment, you’re more then welcome to do so! You can join privately by using the materials provided as a blueprint for you to construct your own Vision Board. It’ll be great if you can share with me your results with it so that we’ll continuously keep each other motivated. Alternatively, if you’ll like to publicly record your Vision Board experience on your website or blog, I’ll be glad to link to your site so that all our readers get to witness the power of the Vision Board!

Hi. The minister at my church has asked me to present the movie The Secret to my church on Friday, July 13,2007. I think I will tell them about this article and ask each of them to do their own Vision Board Experient. I know I will be doing one of my own. Thanks for the information.

I showed the DVD of The Secret last night at a small Unity church in Hot Springs, Arkansas. There were 17 people that came, a smaller group than I had hoped for. We watched the movie and then discussed it afterwards. Unity churches have taught the idea of Treasure Mapping for years. It is the same idea as Vision Boards. I suggested to the minister that he and the Board of Directors might want to do a Treasure Mapping of what they want to see happen for the church. He liked the idea very much. We also decided to do a Vision Board class sometime in the future. Details of when that will happen depends upon the minister. I hope he will follow through. This is a very small church that could benefit from growth of people and finances, both areas than a Vision Board could help with. When this comes about, I will share the information that I have found on your site. Thanks.

Hey Pat, thanks for sharing your experience. It’s inspiring to know that Vision Boards not only extend to our personal pursuits but also to your church’s future! Do let us know if you do intend to keep track of this on your site and I’ll be most delighted to share with the rest of the folks at Goal Setting College.

It is in the hands of the minister now. A class will probably be several months away. When it materializes, I will be sure to let you know the results. Thanks for your encouragement. I will be doing my own personal vision board whether the church follows through or not. Will keep you posted. One fabulous source of words for a vision board is junk mail. They use all kinds of fabulous, positive words in all different sizes while trying to catch your attention to sell you their product.

Haha, junk mail! Interesting… and I absolutely agree with you that the graphical layout of the brochures and pamphlets indeed pleasing to the eye, which is a strong prerequsite for a great Board. By the way, I know Christine Kane’s blog showcase a great gallery of hand made Vision Boards from her students in the retreats. Perhaps you can take a look and draw some inspirations for your own hand made boards.

Well I started a vision board 2 days ago. Being jobless and a few bills made me feel so down. Suddenly it seemed a small light turned on after a looked at it awhile. I feel like living again. Thanks so much for being there.

@Fred Please don’t be discouraged! The global economic meltdown hurts a lot of people. But it might be a gateway to a new opportunity. Remember this quote by Helen Keller “When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we took so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened up for us”.

The law of attraction is indeed something that brings positive energy to a person. I truly am a believer of it. Thanks for sharing. If you get the chance, feel free to hit me back on my site.

Hey! You have one great article here! You have really laid down every little detail on vision boards. I also like the part where you have your ‘experiment on vision boards’. I, too have been using a vision board for several years now. And I say, it has really been effective for me in manifesting destiny. I also use affirmations, by the way.
I hope you will be able to post an article on the results of your experiment. Let’s do this together in helping others by spreading awareness on how vision boards can be a big help in our lives!
    More Power!
