Are You Losing Out By Not Goal Setting?
By Ellesse Chow
Suppose one day, you engage a designer to help you spruce up the interiors of your dull looking home you had spent your life savings on. You wanted a Zen look, but finally decided on a contemporary feel. Nodding his head profusely in acknowledgment of your requirements, the designer assured:” Ok, I’ve got a rough idea how your interiors should be designed. I don’t need a plan.”
How would you feel? Would you engage this designer?
I hope not. But the truth is a lot of us behave exactly what that designer was doing, leading our lives without a plan of exactly where we want to be or go in the future. When I asked a close friend of what she wanted to do after completing her Masters a few days ago, you know what she said? “Don’t know. I’ll see what comes along then.” I was flabbergasted. We don’t mind spending days or even weeks planning our vacations that may occur once or twice a year but do not even bother to draft out a life master plan that could last us for a …lifetime? Remember, whatever that comes along is not a matter of chance. It’s a matter of choice. And it takes you to make that choice. The choice to plan NOW.
“Ok, Ok, you’ve convinced me. So what do I need to do to plan my life?”
First, Believe that Goal Setting IS a Powerful Process to design Your Master Plan
Yes. Goal Setting is a not just a process that you can use to design your master plan, but a powerful one. And it’s powerful not because famous self help gurus like Anthony Robbins, Brian Tracy or Zig Ziglar say so but because you personally believe that it’s powerful. When you start to believe, your actions will coherently move in vertical alignment with your subconscious and soon, you’ll start seeing results that you envision when you first started the belief. My passionate pursuit of Goal Setting started in 1994. A “self professed” high achiever during my teens, my self-centred and complacent tiny world collapsed when I was unable to qualify for the Junior College (i.e. Pre-University) of my choice, and was literally banished to the country’s lowest ranking school. The humiliation turned out to be too much for the then childish and prideful me. I broke down. I felt so defeated. And I’d never forget what one of my good friend said during an unsuccessful attempt to console me “Why don’t you consider other options? If you stay with that school, my sister says it’s unlikely that you’ll ever make it to University”.
Though I was angry and disappointed with her remarks at that time, I’m glad she said that. Because without which, I wouldn’t have challenged myself to set a goal plan and witness what Goal Setting can do. Not only did I quality for University, I did well enough to go to one of the most “difficult-to-gain-entry-to” faculties in my country.
So, if you’re one of those skeptical folks who think Goal Setting is useless or a waste of time, think again. Learn to have utmost faith that Goal Setting WILL work and it’ll help you draft that wonderful life master plan that you never thought you are capable of creating. I did it and I know I’ll do it again. Again. Again. And Again
Will it stop? No. Only if I allow it to.
Second, Download Our Goal Setting Tutorial
Once you affirm that Goal Setting is the way to go, the easier part is actually using it. For a start, you can download our free Goal Setting Tutorial. Based on a methodology that I’ve personally used, this 34 page e-book does not contain all those emotional fluff that other Goal Setting books offer. In fact, someone told me before that it covers too much technical framework and is not emotional enough to drive people to use it. After his comment, I was apprehensive initially about continuing to offer this free download, but finally decided against it. Why? Because, nothing in life is ever perfect. If I pull back this e-book to make it perfect, I’ll probably never going to offer it anymore. Because it’ll never be. There’s bound to be some readers who like a no-nonsense approach while others may prefer a more emotional touch. As such, I’ve decided to let you be the judge. If you are looking for a book that can inspire you to greatness, I’m afraid you’ll have to look elsewhere.
However if you’re keen to try out a action oriented e-book which contains information that can help you
